Meet the friendly staff at Compassion Veterinary Clinic!
Dr. Paul Chapin has been employed here at Compassion Veterinary Clinic since January 2022. He and his wife, Shama both worked as veterinarians in Utah for 20 years, until we convinced them to travel to the east coast and work here as well as our newly formed clinic in Worcester. Dr. Paul has become a very valuable asset to our clinic, not only for his expertise and knowledge, but also for his quick wit and easy going manner with both clients and staff.
Dr. Paul and his wife, Shama Chapin both graduated from Mysore Veterinary College in Bangalore India in 1984. The couple met at the college and after finishing their veterinary degrees, they married and spent the next 7 years working in a 'very mixed' animal practice in Saudi Arabia. Mixed might be an understatement, as patients ranged from cats and dogs to lions, tiger cubs, gazelles and of course, camels. Ultimately the Chapins returned to the U.S. to do an internship at Oklahoma State Veterinary College. Work later took them to Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
The Chapins decided to put down roots in Utah, working at the Humane Society of Utah for the next 20 years and raising their twin children. Over the next 20 years the couple performed nearly 200,000 spay and neuter surgeries on client owned and shelter cats and dogs. When you do the math on how many litters of puppies and kittens could have come from those 200,000 animals, it boggles the mind.
When they are not working, the Chapins can be found cheering on the Utah Jazz NBA basketball team. Dr. Paul loves to escape the city to go hiking and fishing. They spend their time with their dog, Guido, cat, Oswald, 4 parakeets and a cockatoo parrot.
